Adaptation & Exploration
The ability of the agent to continue to provide accurate service requires reflexive interaction with
the user and the data. Just as the available data is dynamic and in flux, so the agent must respond
to changes in user behavior as well as observable changes in the data. The agent must be aware
of alternate paths to information such as additional databases and online services and must
explore these resources, searching for attributes which meet the observed needs of the user. The
agent must have the ability to create dynamic profiles for the user, to re-establish consistently
valuable paths to information, given the changeability of the data and user actions.
Agents will thus engage intervene on the behalf of the user when necessary.

Collaborative Agent Clusters or Agencies
Agents will prove most valuable in an internetworked or intranet environment. A significant
potential to this is the ability for agents to cooperate with other agents. For example, when an
agent of user A is confronted with an information event which is uncertain, the agent can
communicate with other agents, scanning for those supporting user profiles of some degree of
similarity to their own user. The agent of user A will communicate with the agent of user B, in
the case where that agent dealt with the information event in question, and make determinations
as to the action to take based on the recorded response of the agent. In large research or intensive
data mining workgroups Collaborative Agent Communities will prove valuable. Cascading agent
search queries, in tandem with a community of agents will be able to scan huge volumes of
information and return research with a high degree of probable value.
